Articles of Agreement

The principles that form the basis upon which we work together at Arrowsmith are contained in a short document called the Articles of Agreement*. This one-page constitution forms a fundamental part of everyone's employment agreement and determines, in summary, the following:

  • Salary. Everyone at Arrowsmith will receive a salary set to market. The Articles also entitle everyone to ask for an independent review of that salary every year.
  • Profits. Everyone at Arrowsmith receives a share of the profits of the firm. The Articles of Agreement describe how those profits are distributed. An aspect of this ensures investment in the future of the firm.
  • Governance. All stakeholders in the firm have representation on the Board, meaning that everyone is involved in key decisions. By this the Articles also ensure transparency and also promotes trust and respect.
  • Non-Hierarchy. The non-hierarchical character of Arrowsmith  is an important part of the way we work. The Articles ensure, in a number of ways, that the work environment remains a supportive and empowering place, for everyone.

*Articles of Agreement were a contract entered into between the crews of pirate ships in the 16th and 17th centuries. They described rules for discipline, division of profits, and even compensation for injured sailors. These contracts made pirate ships highly effective, and often more effective than the navy ships that they came up against. Click here to read more.
